Calumet Advances to MSFL Championship with 19–7 Win Over Midway
WHITING, Ind. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph sprint football team is headed to the 2025 Midwest Sprint Football League Championship after defeating Midway University 19–7 on Saturday evening at Ray P. Gallivan Field.
The Crimson Wave (6–1) used a strong defensive effort and a balanced offensive attack to overcome an early deficit and secure their place in the title game against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday, November 15 at 3 p.m. (ET) in West Terre Haute, Indiana.
Midway (5–3) struck first when Christian Carter connected with Ayden Bauwens for a 58-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, putting the Eagles ahead 7–0. Calumet responded before halftime with a one-yard touchdown run from Jamall Warnell, cutting the deficit to 7–6 after a failed two-point conversion.
The Crimson Wave took control in the third quarter. Quarterback Zayne Guthrie found Tre Simmons for a 22-yard touchdown to give Calumet its first lead at 12–7. Later in the quarter, Warnell added his second short rushing score, and Jeau Vinatieri’s extra point extended the advantage to 19–7—a lead Calumet’s defense would not relinquish.
Warnell led Calumet on the ground with 56 yards and two touchdowns, while Guthrie finished 5-for-15 passing for 72 yards and a score. Kaydarious Jones added three receptions for 39 yards.
Carter paced Midway with 123 passing yards and a touchdown but was intercepted four times as Calumet’s defense limited the Eagles to 256 total yards and forced three turnovers.
